Charter Oak Communities is at the forefront of assisted housing locally and nationally. Recent accomplishments include our successful opening of Southwood Square, Taylor Street Apartments, and Post House Apartments. The ongoing revitalization of Vidal Court and the new construction underway for our Fairgate community are testament to our progress. These projects reflect the best we can offer in terms of architectural excellence, safe, affordable housing, and a blend of residential properties that meet the diverse needs of our citizens. We have changed the way residents, the community, our financial supporters and government officials view us – we now are in the business of building communities.

This is an exciting, dynamic period in the evolution of assisted housing in America, and a time of great progress and positive change for Charter Oak Communities and for Stamford.
Our successful redevelopment at Southwood Square, completed in 2005; the December 2007 dedication of Taylor Street Apartments; the June 2008 dedication of Post House Apartments; and the ongoing revitalization plans for Vidal Court are testament to our progress. These accomplishments all share common characteristics: They represent the best in architectural excellence and reflect our common goal of working toward safe, attractive, affordable housing in Stamford.
Our progress also has has changed the way our residents and neighbors, the community, our financial investors and state and local government officials view us – we have evolved from being providers and managers of low-cost public housing to being in the business of building communities. Our core goal remains unchanged: We will continue strengthening neighborhoods. But we're not the same organization we were 10 years ago, much less a few decades ago.
In acknowledgment of our positive changes, accomplishments and future goals, in 2008 the Stamford Housing Authority changed the name of its residential housing program to Charter Oak Communities. This entity oversees our property-management relationships, facilities and day-to-day business responsibilities.
